The MDG Portfolio: Inside Some of Our Favourite Projects

By Madeleine Design Group | South Surrey & White Rock

A beautifully designed home stays with you long after you’ve left it.

Not because of one dramatic feature or perfectly styled room, but because of the way it made you feel. Calm. Comfortable. Connected. The best homes have a quiet confidence to them – spaces that feel layered, personal, and deeply considered without ever trying too hard.

That’s what we strive for at Madeleine Design Group.

Our work is rooted in the belief that luxury design should feel lived in, not staged. Every project in our Interior Design Portfolio South Surrey reflects the people behind it – their routines, their lifestyle, the way they want to experience home on a daily basis. From custom homes overlooking the White Rock coastline to thoughtful renovations designed around growing families, each space tells a different story. And that story always comes first.

What Makes a Portfolio Worth Exploring?

A good design portfolio shouldn’t feel like a catalogue.

It should feel human.

Anyone can pull together beautiful furniture or source expensive finishes. What’s harder – and far more important –  is creating spaces that actually feel good to live in. Spaces that function effortlessly, age gracefully, and still feel like “home” years later.

That’s what we look for when we revisit our own projects.

Not perfection. Personality.

Some homes in our portfolio are architectural and dramatic. Others are quieter and more restrained. But the common thread is always intention. Every detail has a purpose, even if you can’t immediately pinpoint why a room feels so calm, cohesive, or welcoming.

And that’s often what luxury design comes down to – not excess, but thoughtfulness.

You’ll see that approach throughout our  interior design portfolio, where every project is designed around real life, not just aesthetics.

Ocean Bluff Estate (9)

A West Coast Modern Custom Home

Ocean Bluff Estate is one of those projects that quietly shows what full-service design is really about.

Originally part of a larger renovation scope in South Surrey, the home evolved into a fully cohesive interior transformation – one where architecture, interiors, and furnishings were refined together rather than treated separately.

From the beginning, the focus was on creating a sense of balance. The home had scale, natural light, and strong architectural bones, but it needed warmth and continuity to bring everything together.

Rather than over-designing the space, the approach was intentionally restrained. We leaned into natural materials, soft tonal variation, and custom millwork that helped ground the larger volumes of the home. Every intervention was considered for how it would support daily life – not just how it would photograph.

Furnishings and styling played an equally important role. Layered textures, tailored pieces, and carefully selected accents helped soften the architecture and bring a sense of livability into each space.

What resulted is a home that feels composed but comfortable. Elevated, but never distant. The kind of space where every detail quietly supports the next – without ever needing to compete for attention.

Re-imagining a Family Home: Whilloughby Townhome

Some of the most meaningful projects aren’t the largest in scale – they’re the ones where every square foot needs to work harder.

This Willoughby townhome renovation is a strong example of that.

Originally a builder-grade layout, the home lacked personality, storage, and a sense of cohesion. Our role was to reimagine the interior so it better reflected the rhythm of a busy family – more functional, more character-driven, and far more tailored to how the space would actually be used.

We reworked key areas of the home with a focus on built-in solutions, custom millwork, and layered materials that brought warmth back into the space. The design direction leaned more traditional in foundation, but with subtle modern refinements to keep it feeling current.

The result is a home that feels grounded and comfortable – with enough detail to feel considered, but not overwhelming in any way.

This type of work reflects a core part of what we do at MDG: taking existing spaces and reworking them into homes that feel intentional again.

The Finishing Layer: Furnishings, Styling, and Personality.

A home can be beautifully built and still feel incomplete.

That’s usually where furnishing and styling come in.

This particular project involved a newly completed custom home with strong architectural bones, but the homeowners struggled to make the space feel warm and personal. Everything looked polished — but it didn’t yet feel lived in.

So we focused on layering.

Textured fabrics. Sculptural lighting. Vintage-inspired accents. Custom rugs sized specifically for the scale of each room. We mixed refined pieces with softer, more organic elements to create balance and warmth.

More importantly, we incorporated items that already meant something to the family — collected artwork, heirloom objects, books, ceramics from past travels. Those details are what give a home soul.

And while before-and-after transformations on furnishing projects are often more subtle than full renovations, the emotional difference is immediate. Spaces begin to feel settled. Comfortable. Entirely their own.

That’s something we believe strongly at MDG: furnishing isn’t separate from design. It’s part of the story.

Want to See Your Home in Our Portfolio?

Every home featured in our portfolio started with a conversation.

An idea. A frustration. A feeling that something could be better.

Whether you’re planning a luxury custom home, renovating an existing space, or simply trying to make your home feel more reflective of your lifestyle, we’d love to help you navigate the process thoughtfully.

The earlier design is considered, the stronger the outcome tends to be — not just visually, but functionally too.
